June sees rise in ADS, and a jump in care and non-care minutes
Rob Covino presents Mirus Industry Analysis (MIA), insights into the previous month’s key performance indicators across the not-for-profit, private providers, and the cumulative industry trends from the 89,000+ beds the Mirus Australia team currently monitors for financial sustainability.
In this month’s MIA, the June data tells a story of continued growth in the overall Average Daily Subsidy (ADS) with the industry ADS jumping up 63 cents to $188.18.
The overall movements in ADS came from the strong claiming activity rates achieved by all cohorts.
2021 is continuing to be a challenging time for admissions across the board, with both NFP and private operators feeling the occupancy pinch. We are, however, seeing some positive trends for operators who are investing in sales and marketing strategies. That said, June saw a reduction across all three cohorts in new admissions from hospitals with private operators experiencing an 8% reduction from last month.
As we work towards October 2021, where providers will have their first mandatory reporting of direct care minutes on a per-bed per-day basis, we saw a marked jump in both care and non-care minutes delivered.
Also, the Business Improvement Fund (BIF) is back. It could mean grant funding of $7,500 to $15,000 per operational bed for your organisation.
