Welcome to the October 2023 edition of Mirus Industry Analysis (MIA). 

Revenue

In September, the industry Average Daily Subsidy (ADS) experienced a slight increase of 8 cents to $253.27.

Recent data shows a noticeable shift in claiming activity, which has decreased from its previous peak in double digits, stabilising at approximately 6-7% of residents being classified each month. In September, this figure stood at 7.59%.

Occupancy

Permanent admissions continue to rise, approaching 89% occupancy rate in September.

Additionally, short-term admissions also experienced an increase this month, accounting for 23.83% of all resident admissions.

Workforce management

Total Direct Care Minutes across the sector saw an impressive improvement of 2.46%, reaching 199.68 minutes per resident per day. Although RN minutes exhibited commendable growth, rising by 7.83%, it remained below the expected 40-minute average.
